My camera takes 700 mAh power battery's, what would happen if i put 1200mAh ones in? Common sense isn't very common.

120 x 5.8333... = 720

If using a third party battery the mAh stated on the battery are to the most part very rubbery figures!

My prehistoric Canon 5D2, if one looks in the menu, shows the state & history & performance of the battery, up to 6 batteries.

I have replaced the original 3 batteries with another 3, which in a few years will need replacing again. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

If it's a Canon camera buy a Canon battery. 1200mAh will give you more photos than 720mAh.

A lot of the no name brands have overstated figures & the batteries tend to have a short life, so cost you more in the long run. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

It's a Fuji camera.
I was worried that it may be too powerful and short out the camera. Common sense isn't very common.

As long as the voltage is the same as the original battery it will be fine. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Physically it should also be a larger battery, if it isn't and of unknown make then avoid. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Put simply, volts tells you how “powerful” the battery is, mAh tells you how long it will last between charges. So long as the volts, the chemistry (Li Ion or whatever), and the physical packaging are the same you’re good to go.

Personally I tend not to use manufacturer-branded batteries as the manufacturer premium can be huge - I’ve just bought a no-name battery for less than £10 whereas a lower-capacity Nikon-branded battery would have been £60! At that rate I don’t really care if the no name doesn’t last as long.

The vast majority of lithium batteries are made in China, some are of excellent quality, many are not, the only safeguard seems to be the quality control of the firm placing the order, ie if Duracell have good QA in place at the point of manufacture then the quality will be to their standard.
The problem with lithium batteries is there is little chance to make savings, the electronics to prevent overheating, overcharging and over-discharge are a prime place to save money, the other saving is in the thickness of the internal membrane, if this has a pin-hole, then heat is generated, this creates a bigger hole generating more heat - you get the idea. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
