Yes, likewise I hadn't realised that so many changes were made. Showing my lack of knowledge here but can someone enlighten me as to what advantages a variable geometry turbo offers?

Basically by varying the inlet vanes, you can speed up the air to the turbo, at a lower speed, and increase the low rev torque.

My Sister has the top or the range Evoque with an oil burner & I have the Ford 2.0L Ecoboost in my Freelander, it's a much nicer engine. Now with all the acoustic insulation I have installed her Evoque feels like an old oil banger from a different century!

This is what people want down under, as you said, big windows & a practical box shaped car.

A tad misleading! The "old" turbocharger is also variable geometry, standard tech in modern diesel cars. However, the new one is bigger and water-cooled. |

Snap..like you I changed my 2007 Td4 Auto to 2013 Td4 Auto. As my son has the 2007 now, I've driven them back to back, the 2007 definitely feels a little more responsive on pickup, which was a bit of a surprise. |

Variable geometry turbos are also very prone to the vanes sticking. Check out the many YouTube posts on the subject. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side ! Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore. Freelander now gone. |
