I will be getting new tyres in the autumn.

My TPMS valves are at least 3 years old and may be the full 6 years old as my tyres are date marked 2014 and I think are original.

My question is :-

Is it normal to have new TPMS valves fitted at tyre change, and if not, how long do their batteries last? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 79k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

My 2008 LR2 is on the original battery (its not replaceable unless you replace the entire sensor)

On my car the external ARB TPMS only switch on once the car reaches about 20kph due to enough movement. If you have high mileage they will be on more.

At 6 years old probably there is not a lot left in the batteries. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Where I live if you get the sensor directly from Land Rover it will cost you $130 x 4 = $520 (plus the cost of install)

For that price I'm not replacing until the battery is dead


However you should be able to find a better price



Amazon has some 433 MHz sensors that don't require programming for $26 x 4 = $104

These won't work for me I have the USA 311 MHz sensors but in the UK 433 MHz should be correct.

When I changed the wheels on my 2010 Volvo I did move the sensors (I bought a rebuild kit for $10 x 4 = $40)

The Tyre shop didn't want to be responsible for the sensors if they developed a leak so I changed them myself at the Tyre store and I took responsibility for any leaks.

Its been months and the swapped sensors worked fine with no leaks
