What Software Version?

Hey folks. Does anyone know how I'd find out what firmware/software version my car is running and what the most up to date version is?

I have a 60 reg 2011 facelift that suffers from the almost stalling at idle thing which some people have found was fixed with an update. Would be good to know if that was the case before I go swapping out sensors etc.

Cheers. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

With a diagnostic tool you may find it. Depends on the diagnostic tool. The following CAN PIDs will give you the answer.
The F188 and F124 are the most relevant to your question. F188 is the main executable, F124 are the maps.
Below the ones read on my car:
ECU VIN [F190]: SALFA24B19H122400
ECU S/N [F18C]: 13350630177
ECU ASY1 [F111]: 6G91-12A650-AE
ECU ASY3 [F113]: 6G91-12A650-AE
ECU HWN [F191]: 6G91-12B684-EC
ECU BOOT [F180]: 6G91-14C558-AD
ECU SWN1 [F188]: 6G91-14C204-BE
ECU SWN2 [F120]: 6G91-14C569-AA
ECU DAT1 [F124]: 9G92-12K532-VWA

I've observed that when the EGR was blanked, the effect you are talking was almost imperceptible, so it may have to do with how quick the EGR and how much is the EGR opening when the injection is resumed after coasting.

Thanks Alex. I have a basic ODB2 reader so will see what I can find with that. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Regarding the EGR blank, I'm concerned I'd fail my next MOT as I have read some scare stories on that. Plus I don't know if it will affect my DPF. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I was not suggested the EGR blank. I, for one, I've observed a slight better functioning of the engine when the EGR was NOT blanked.
Now, I am on a compromise. An 8mm drilled blanking plate.

Regarding your initial question, if your reader can be instructed to read user entered PIDs, then you may be able to retrieve the versions.
But better contact someone with SDD, because an up to date SDD database will suggest firmware updates, if they are available.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

This may or may not be useful to you at some point but my car is also a 60 plate MY11 (SD4). I use GAP IIDBT and this tells me that the software for my BCM-Body control unit is up to date with the following:

F188 BG9T-14C094-KD

F124 BG9T-14C095-KB

For PCM-Engine:

F188 BH52-14C204-VC

F124 BH52-12K532-VTG

Basic OBD reader will not read anything like firmware levels

You need something along the lines of an IID Tool, or SDD etc Thumbs Up
