Pleasantly surprised. Waxoyl.

While the hippo is on lock down i'm slowly doing odds and sods, today I decided to start undersealing it, been putting it of for ages.
So got the nearside up on axle stands, winter wheels off, brakes covered over and plastic panels removed, had to cut one or two bolts off.
Very little mud underneath and only surface rust, not bad for a 13 year old Land Rover.

Hope the offside is as good.
Now the mucky bit. Common sense isn't very common.

How easy was it to get the front wheel arch cover off.

Two self tappers under the bumper, two or three bolts one of which only needs loosening as the cover slides out, and a plastic clip at the top, takes longer to take the wheel off then remove the cover. Common sense isn't very common.

Just given up for the day, i'm now rustproofed along with my glasses, watch and the drive and next doors cat, I think I may have got a bit on the car somewhere.

Removed all the rubber bungs along the cill and round the wheel arches sprayed inside and then outside, need to do the inside of the doors and a bit more under the front wing, then put all the covers back adjust the handbrake put the summer wheels on and start all over again on the other side then put it on ramps and do the floor area. Exclamation Common sense isn't very common.

That’s the problem Waxoyl isn’t what it was and a year or two I would be happy with the last time I did mine with it it literally washed off with the hose pipe ,there’s much better out there these days.

How did you apply it, Axle ?
I use black waxoyl on my Land Rover chassis and can get a really smooth finish.

After:

Also did my Freelander 1, the whole of the underside - unfortunately no pics were taken. I did the F1 doors with cavity wax, it's great stuff and not as messy .

My 110 chassis after being done for 4 years:

used one of the pressure waxoyl tins, not a very good spray as you can see but when the covers are back on you won't see. Whistle Common sense isn't very common.

Yep, that's what I used on the F1 and the 110. It made such a difference the hotter and thinner it got as the nozzle on the sprayer could be adjusted for a finer, neater job.
For the lightweight I cheated and bought a job lot of waxoyl 600ml spray cans - much easier and less messy to use - although it did tend to drip below the nozzle and blob if it was pressed down for too long. It was fine as long as you wiped it every now and then.
Also, top tip for anyone thinking of waxoyling the underneath of the vehicle, but wish to avoid getting it all over things you don't need coating - like the exhaust etc. Rather than spend ages using masking tape and old newspapers, the best way of covering stuff , at least that I've found anyway, is tinfoil. Rip it off to the size required and squeeze it around the part you want to protect. Easier to remove too and it conforms to any shape, unlike masking tape and paper.

Emptied the cans into a saucepan and heated it up so it could be poured into the pressure tin, nozzle is Censored hence the bad pattern. Talk about messy, don't spray when it's even a little bit windy.
Did ask SWMBO first. Common sense isn't very common.

Wax oil

I put mine on with a paint brush .first put the Tim a bucket of hot water give it a good shake the pour into an open cartoon .then brush it on ,not as much waste as spraying.but you have to spray into the cavities again warmed up.after I blocked up all the drain holes .
