Bluespark or Synergy seem to be the two main chip boxes used (plenty of threads on both of these). Easy to install, and result in better throttle response and make the car feel nicer to drive. MPG improvements vary from slight to none. Concerns seem to be stress on the fuel system due to higher fuel rail pressures (even though both companies state everything's kept within safety margins).

If you want better MPG and a driving improvement, then would recommend looking at a proper re map, but the $ might put you off... but then it would pay for itself eventually.

Currently running a Synergy and I'm very happy with the results. When money isn't an issue I'll go a remap.

All a tuning box does, is intercept these signals, and give false information back to the ECU...

By fitting a tuning box, you are removing any built in safety parameters...

If it's a Td4 you have sell it and get an Sd4 if you want some extra oomph.

Anyone like to comment please
On how much extra they had to pay on their insurance due to having the car chipped.

Plenty of SD4s around, and later models appear to have most of the problems sorted out.

SD4 engine/ transmission is the best combination to get the mini Range Rover feel.

Sd4 is great out of the box but I imagine there is scope for improvements in economy / torque for it too with a remap. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

The extra torque gives 75mph at 1800rpm instead of 2000rpm and gets 35-37 mpg but no real improvement when driven locally but it all depends how heavy your right foot is Laughing
And a cleaner engine without the poxy EGR valve. 94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

I rarely see 40mpg in our SD4 - gets about 38mpg on most of our 130 mile M6 trips Jules

How can extra torque alter the gearing by 10%?
