Good for him. Anything to drown out that dreadful plink, plink, plonk noise that the BBC call the news theme tune. Tune? Definately not a tune, just an irritating noise.

jimbo, the tune was based on the 'pips' that was used as clock - top of the hour - for many years.

There were originally five pips with the last one being exactly on the hour but at some point an extra pip was added so the sixth was on the hour. The pips started in wireless days (that is radio for young whippersnappers) before television. I know that the plink plonk noise plinks and plonks on the second and the BBC use it for timing and sychronisation purposes but I still find it an irritating noise. We all have different tastes and I am pleased that some of us enjoy it.

Pretty sure they are a few seconds slow, probably due to the digital network nowadays, last time I checked them against the RF clock they were about 4 seconds out.

As an example my Mum who lives with us has her own TV, same satellite dish and they are a good 7 seconds delay between them, hers is before ours as ours goes through the Humax tuner and hers direct through the TV digital tuner.

Brin back valves I say..... Rolling with laughter Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......
