Hi all not been around a while the FL2 been running well and hit 330,000kms recently at 13 yrs old.
Looking for the wife to get a new vehicle and most normal cars just don’t cut it after driving the freelander as her main vehicle so I’m looking at getting the Evoque for her, probably a 2013/14 or 15 plate if the prices slump a little over the next few weeks (was hunting to replace our now dead second car before this virus kicked off).

Has anyone any links to a similar page with evoque customers or anyone on here have one in addition to the Freelander2?
Looking at some feedback on the model the YouTube reviews are in general very positive but nothing like speaking to those who have owned one.

I will keep the old FL2 as she works well in towing the daughter horsebox and our caravan and will not eat diesel and Tyres as much when the wife isn’t using it all the time..

We went to an Evoque from an FL2. Much more refined. If you think of the FL2 in clothing terms as a bib and brace with a pair of hob nail boots, the Evoque will be the same car with a posh frock and a pair of high heels. Whatever you do though, don’t get an ingenium engined version although I don’t think they started fitting them until 2015/2016. A 2.2SD4 with a 9 speed box would be my choice if I was buying another. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

So avoid the newer ones anyway then. Budget wise will prob be a 12 or 13 plate. Been looking in UK and Ireland but the Evoque attracts about 5k in import tax and this new NOX charge and UK prices not that much lower then Irish so probably stick with Irish.
I know the difference between the ED4, TD4 and SD4, just wondered to save on fuel and maintenance and tyre costs would a high spec ED4 be a better buy? Does the ED4 come with all the bells and whistles of the 4WD models.
And do we go for auto or manual? Most of her long driving is going to running races across the country but we live in the countryside and her journey to work is across farming lanes and hill tops so flooding and lots of ice always in the winter.
But is it worth buying an Evoque to only get 2wd in the end? Was looking at a 2017 Hyundai Tuscon but after driving one felt the inside was very cheap. Spoilt with the FL2 even though ours isn’t a high spec model.

No the TD4 up to 2015 is the Ford 2.2 that the freelander uses I believe @150bhp with the SD4 being 190bhp (and higher tax ). The ED4 is also the 2.2 engine just fwd only so get the looks but less weight with half the drivetrain so better fuel economy and lowest tax bracket here in Ireland.

Would love a top spec SD4 on a 2015 plate. Just have to see if the garages will take a hit on their stock with hardly any sales at the minute.

My sister has a top of the range Evoque a few years older than my Freelander. Apart from needing a periscope to see out of it. It feels small, no full size spare wheel. Personally I wouldn't want one. Hers is diesel, mine is petrol, doesn't help either as the petrol feels more refined. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Car sales in Ireland are down 64% for March and that will rise big time for April! It’s the only silver lining we have to this virus.....
In Ireland Petrol prices mean a Petrol version is almost non existent. This will be the wife’s main car taken over from the FL2 which I will now inherit as my main workhorse. I was using a 2005 Megane but just declared it off road as clutch slip and steering issues mean a €600 repair bill for a car worth €400 lol.
We live up a small mountain which always has a different climate to all around us. Last year she was the only one to drive into work using the FL2 manual trick gearbox in snow settings! It’s why I’m thinking the Evoque will be a natural progression for her. Not worried about lack of rear room as she will in general be using it on her own or with maybe 2 children.
My gut feeling is the industry is decimated now for at least 3 months, and will start to drop prices big time probably below cost just to generate some income. Ideal is an SD4 on 2015 plate with medium mileage (under 70k) with all bells and whistles. Was looking at the ed4 2wd but unsure how it performs and if it’s worth it for economy but sacrificing the all terrain modes of the 4WD.

I wouldn't bother with a 2wd Evoque I don't think the savings over a 4wd Sd4 auto will be that much and losing the 4wd capabilities where you live not worth it .

Absolutely, and if you cannot afford the fuel or running costs, then you should not be buying.

Yeah the more I think about why we have a jeep in the first place the more the 2wd one is pushed further away! Been running the FL2 for 6 years now at a cost of 2 tyres per year and quartley car tax cost of €268! The newer ones are about a third cheaper but don’t want to buy another newer FL2 now hence the Evoque seems a natural progression. Would love the DS4 but the tax for that in Ireland is crazy and I can’t avail of the commercial loop hole.
Think have to sit tight and watch the prices and maybe send a few emails to those I fancy offering a straight cash deal for €15k instead of €20k! We just find ourselves lucky to be in our position with the money for the first time ever.

I'd say now or maybe next month will be a fantastic time to do a deal on any car. Dealers are shifting nothing and will likely bend over backwards to complete any deal, just talking about that last week, wishing we were in position to change my wife's Tiguan as she has decided that an evoque will be her next wheels. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
