Just to inform newer members - if you are not using your FL2 a while -

The FL2 electric system is designed to shut down at about 4 weeks of non-use.

You will be left with just the perimeter alarm working and no remote key.

Just remove the small trim bit on the left hand door handle and use the emergency key (within key fob) to manually open the door. The alarm will sound, but will go silent as you start the car normally.

Hint - have a look in the Handbook before it happens to you.

Make sure you don't have the nearside parked tight against anything so you can use the key if necessary.

Good piece of advice Ian.

That exact thing happened to me last year after a stay in hospital. Luckily I park the car in the garage with the near side accessible.
Took me a few moments to realise why I couldn't open the door with the remote.  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Also you might want to charge the car's battery every so often if sitting for extended periods, more so if it is beyond its design life of 4 years.

I have a Victron 10amp Bluetooth charger on the wall in the garage & one of their 2m extension leads to reach the other side of the car, & you get the charging info on your mobile.

Also use it to charge up the four 26ah auxiliary batteries every so often. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Just sorned mine. Only taxed on 01 Feb. Am I to assume as long as I charge the battery with my optimate every couple of weeks or because it,s an automatic charger just leave it on, this will stop the problem happening.

No it won't, its not related to the battery voltage, it time based. You will at the very least need get the ignition turned on, i.e. FOB in and press start without depressing the brake pedal (for the autos). I 'think' that is enough and you don't actually have to start the car.

Is this just on issue on older cars?

We left our 2014 FL2 sitting on the drive locked for 6 weeks, and it unlocked with the fob and started as per normal. Jules

Possibly, there is a 7 year difference and its a bit of a stupid feature coupled with only passenger door access. Yours is the only post I recall seeing where its been left for more than 4 weeks and still unlocks though.

Just another suggestion. Check your passenger manual door lock actually works before getting to the 4 week power down situation.

Had this happen on my daughter's Ford C-Max (another ford derived car as much of FL2 is) and door lock had seized from lack of use. Could not free up from outside. Ended up breaking one of quarter lights to force entry. Andy

I have never heard of this power down , and failing to unlock. I have just this week unlocked my car with the remote key after 4 months of being left unattended. I then put it on charge overnight until all the lights on the Cteck charger were lit and it started fist time .
