PTU 2013 GS manual

Hi All

Bell Engineering have recommended I change the PTU after a telephone diagnoses. There is a distinct whining noise related to road speed. Cant say if its front or back while driving. Had the vehicle on the 2 poster and its defiantly from the front. Checked the Haldex and that looks as though its doing what it should although there is a slight play on the front bearing Bell say thats normal. All the drive shafts are solid. Prop shaft could be? but techs say they never wear out!!

Anyone had this issue and put it right?

Thanks for your help

Chris

Changed the one on mine last year.
When removed the output shaft had a hell of a wobble on it - fully expected it to have blown up shortly had I not changed it when I did.
Car is a 62 plate auto.
Had done 113k miles at the time. I’m now on 140k - lovely and silent.

Thanks for your reply.

Now got the prop shaft off without removing the exhaust so 2 wheel drive only, Bearing rumble is still there but not as pronounced. Next step is to put the vehicle back on the ramp and lock the back wheels. That should isolate the rear end from the front. I have noticed there is are 2 worn UJ's on the front section of the prop shaft causing clunk when twisted by hand. Not sure how much play is acceptable. The rear UJ there is no play at all. The Haldex will be out tomorrow so I can look at the rear if necessary.
diff input shaft.
There is no movement on the PTU output bearing that I can detect. I am going to replace the clutch when I swap out the PTU and will look at the gear box input shaft bearing. In my experience that rumble would disappear when the clutch pedal is depressed.

If I change everything that should get rid of it!!!

Cheers

Chis
