How long should a battery last? Near the end of the winter I had to put the battery on charge as it was dead. Same thing happened the other day.

Charge it up and get it tested. Even new batteries can be faulty from day one - that’s why you get 2/3/4 years guarantee. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Batteries don't really like to be left alone for too long without being charged and it might be a good idea to consider buying a trickle charger like the Optimate. It will keep the battery topped up and in peak condition for years. Cheers,

My car is never locked , so access isn’t a problem and no sign it won’t start until I want to go somewhere. Can you connect the optimate charger with disconnecting a battery terminal? Do it now ! Your a long time dead !! |

If you buy a Cetek, optimate etc they will come with a connector which you attach to the battery you simply plug the charger in & job done no need to disconnect anything. |

You need to double lock it. Why ? its still alive, looking at you and eating juice. Or to put it another way as an example it will be looking for Bluetooth-ed products constantly. Get a trickle charger and at 4 to 5 years a new battery (especially if kept outside like mine), its cheaper than missing a flight or keeping the Mother in Law waiting FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current |

Can't be done with a live moving object within as it will trigger the alarm.

You only need to double lock when leaving overnight or for longer periods away. You just have to press the lock button twice, within 3 seconds, if I remember correctly. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Just changed the original battery on wife's 56 reg Peugeot 207. After 11 years it was slightly sluggish on a cold morning but I decided to go for one of the (many) Eurocar parts offers and got her a new one for her birthday. This must be some sort of record. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

There's a bit of mis-information creeping into this thread!

I have had 4 Freelander 2's and had to replace all the batteries at around 4 years old (they have all had the orig in). Never known any other car to eat batteries like it. They just seem to destroy them. |

My original battery also died when the car was 4 years and a few months. And it died really fast. One morning I noticed it was cranking a bit slower, that evening it was dead and had to call LR service to get it started. |
