Smart key opens the car but won't start it

Hi all,

Another query if I may.....

When we got the FL2 (MY12) with keyless ignition, we were given 2 keys. The car moaned about the batteries being low in the fobs so we changed them (CR2032's) and this brought one fob to full working order but the second fob is only capable of locking and unlocking the car. If you try to start it you get the smart key not found message.

Is this a re-programming job on the fob or something else? I think the fob in question was utterly flat prior to the battery swap whereas the one that works fine had a little bit of life left and was therefore the one we used until we got the batteries changed over.

TIA.

Chris.

On the MY13 you hold it up against the underside of the steering column. Had it happen a few times then it seems to be perfectly ok. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I have found if the battery is 1.497 volts you get a message to replace battery. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Battery already replaced (the fob was totally dead before). Now on a new battery it opens the car but won't start it. Think we've already tried holding it under the steering column but will try it again. It's almost like it's lost its pairing to a degree. Really odd.

The unlocking and the immobiliser are 2 separate functions of the key. Unlocking is a radio link powered by the battery. Immobiliser (the bit that doesn't work for you) is a passive RFID transponder. I am not sure how these are coded by the dealer, presumably the SSD system does them both at the same time, but it sounds like the RFID part has either died or lost its coding.
