Seized spark plugs

I've seen some comments about how some people have to deal with seized spark plugs on their vehicles. I'm not surprised -- if the engine block is aluminium and your spark plugs are made of steel or some other metal, you're going to get dissimilar metal corrosion and seizing. Having worked on aircraft engines, normal and round (the ones that mark their spots on the tarmac), I learned long ago the solution for that. Just put some of this on the threads, all around. End of problem.

Much the same as LM grease I guess, very high temperature grease or (which I use) just wipe the threads with Copaslip anti seize compound before inserting. Regards

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

That spark plug grease is more likely a graphite grease. Good anti seize properties and conductive too. Copper grease would do the job too.

This is not grease. According to the MSDS for the product, it is 20% or less graphite, 50% or more water and the rest is a proprietary thickener and a pigment. It's made by ACHESON COLLOIDS COMPANY of Port Huron, Michigan. Recommendations on use... Apply sparingly to second and third threads. Do not contact electrodes as it could short out the plug. Do not apply to shielding barrel threads. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas

Copper grease should not be used on aluminium Thumbs Up

Much better with a ceramic grease Thumbs Up

Yes, putting copper grease into aluminium is just throwing gas on the fire. Copper is a metal. Dissimilar metal corrosion doesn't really care which two metals its working to destroy. Smile 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas
