Anyone know if version 2 of Disco Sport is improvement on ve

I had 16 plate Disco sport HSE long story but short version I rejected it due to vibrations.
Anyone got any experience of new ( 2019/2020 my) over original?
If yes is it better? Is fuel consumption improved?

Got a version 2 DS 250p. yes the improvements are everywhere, some because Ive gone for petrol over diesel smoother quieter, but by accounts the diesels are also much quieter than mk1.

I like it a lot, gear stick not a dial, very good infotainment, with 3 years of updates on mapping. comfortable smooth responsive.

brakes are totally different parts than mk1 i know a number of people complained of rusty rear discs on mk1

the mild hybrid doesnt seem to offer much, but it makes the stop start barely noticeable as its a belt driven starter/generator. engine will stop as you coast to a stop at the lights and fire up instantly with no wirring noise when you want to procede.

Also finally a LR with brake hold, stab the brake a bit harder when stopped and they lock on until you press accelerator, little things like that make a big difference.

other toys adaptive cruise/ lane keep etc are good to have but for me not crucial At work

I’ve yet to try the new one but IMO the previous model was awful. I ditched it after 6 months. Hopefully they’ve sorted the Touch Pro infotainment system because it’s woeful in the Velar, it’s gave me a year and a half’s worth of trouble, just done it’s second over the air update and so far it seems a bit more stable.

The Velar is due it’s service next month so hopefully I get a new DS to try. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

touch pro seems to work fine,
It crashed once, in its first week when trying to play music from the ultra slimline usb stick that I bought to fit under the armrest of DS mk1, replaced with a full fat usb 3.0 stick and it works fine At work

Is oil dilution still a problem for version 2 as it was for the Ingenium engines of the 1st version ? If so, then I would be inclined to avoid diesel variants then. Jules

early days on that, mines petrol anyway so no worries for me.
I decided to jump the diesel ship long ago, but petrol wasnt available on DS 3 years ago so first one had to be diesel.

There is just too much complexity on modern diesels for my liking.

I see Clarkson writing in Sunday times today he seems to like the new disco sport but wouldnt buy one as he thinks all 'soft ' roaders are ultimatly pointless.

Just drove mine to town and back and was freshly reminded how smooth and quiet it truly is, nearly as comfortable as the new seats in York Vue cinema Thumbs Up At work

There were so many fundamental problems with the DS it has put me off any new LRs for a while..although will look at the new baby DS when that appears in the next couple of years.

Oil dilution, early services required, excessive adblue consumption, rattling B pillar and a heating fan that would pack up if you didn't use the car for a few days certainly put me off and got shot of my hoped for long term car within 12 months. Would hope the facelift isn't as bad but I am not brave enough to risk my money on one.

Traded in a 66 plate 180bhp diesel DS for a 68 plate 230bhp diesel DS in November.
the 66 plate raised the sump level by 6mm every 10k.
The 68 plate needed a litre of oil after 10k, so Iwould say that the oil dilution problem has gone away, but it might be the 230bhp engine rather than the later model.
Yes the later model is very much quieter, and the entertainment system is more entertaining.

overall pleased with the change, but have gone from a HSE to a HSE Lux, so it should be nicer, and the power increase is so much nicer that I will never go back. The 66 plate was doing 37mpg, the 68 plate does 35mpg, this compares with the 2008 FL2 on the same 80 mile round trip every day only managing 28mpg.

now the downside, called into dealer complaining of exhaust rattle last week. turns out I have managed to lodge a stone in the exhaust heat shield, but the Technician did point out that the balance shaft bearings are very noisey and willl need to be changed in January. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Ahh the balancer shaft issues that’s plagued the D240. Mines been ok so far, due it’s 1st service in January so hopefully everything still good. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Actually they sound great - just like a supercharger spooling up, I just love the noise but left unchecked will destroy the engine.
I believe that the needle bearings that the shafts run in use the engine block as the outer race, run for too long and the engine block is scrap.

Look at it from my point of view, I want to keep this one for 200k miles, lets say the first set of shafts get changed around 12k, and they die again (many do) - probably spotted at the first service at 22k, they will then fit a second set, if they are then noisy at the second service (44K) I will get a new engine at that point. so 20% of my expected mileage and starting with a new engine.

LR policy seems to be two sets of shafts and then fit a new engine.

It could also work out that the first replacement set fixes the problem, if so not really a problem as I at least get a free oil change at 12K. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Am I missing something here? You get the 20% of your mileage under your belt with two lots of balance shafts and a new engine. Are you really expecting four more free engines from Land rover? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
