United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

It's the same reason (LHD) that the fuel filler is on the Right Hand side, on most cars. Luckily some cars (Japanese), have the fuel filler and bonnet release, in the correct positions, as they are RHD also. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

My 2016 Fiesta (europe's 4th best selling car) has the fuel filler on LHS, despite the vast majority of these being made in LHD versions.
I dont think there is any standardisation on the fuel filler positioning. I usually try to park with the drivers door away from the fuel pumps as it gives more room to open the doors. but in truth Im not really bothered as I park either way round and just pull the fuel hose out more to reach the filler if its facing away from the pumps. Jules

One beauty of the steering wheel being opposite to the gas fill is that during winter as it's usually very windy here (Canada), the driver's door will not usually bang against any barriers or obstacles! Thumbs Up
