Integrated Front Bumper Winch

Another reason why you wouldn’t ever want to trade in your Freelander 2 for either an Evoque or Discovery Sport, there’s simply no room in their design for this option! Sadly the Freelander 2 was LR’s last model in this size to have this type of aftermarket option considered in its design brief.

Looks a nice installation but makes me wonder just how much “hot testing” was carried out post fitment? Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

What is the string made of?

Better with a strap or wire?

Trust me, if Warren (MuddyMods) has this fitted to his own vehicle, it's a guarantee that it's been tested ,tested and tested again long before being marketed. He has built up a reputation for Freelander modifications over the last few years that is second to none.
I saw him before he sold his lift kits. He had a kit on his Freelander 2 (the one in the above pics) and although it performed like it should he said he wasn't 100% happy with it and he wanted to tweak the design before putting them on sale. He did just that, tested it again and when he was happy with it, it went on sale. Good enough isn't good enough for Warren, so rest assured , if you do buy anything from him, you'll be happy in the knowledge that it's something he would put on his own vehicle and not just something to make money. After all, Warren is a Freelander enthusiast.

Hot damn. I don't necessarily want a winch that big, but heck that's handy. Having seen the metal behind the bumper I don't see why there aren't more bars offered. Didn't look much different to my Discos.

Better with a strap or wire?

The people in the know are using synthetic wire now for 2 reasons.

The metal wire is a substantial percentage of the winch's weight. So the less weight you have out the front of the car the better for the suspension's long term wear & tear.

More importantly metal wire is far more lethal if it breaks. People have been killed due to the kinetic energy with body parts decapitated. The synthetic wire is far safer as it does not have the mass.

You still need to use a damper (a blanket or rubber floor mats are better than nothing) to slow the rope down if it breaks.

Never join 2 ropes or wires with a metal shackle or you have a potential missile in the middle.

& everyone to stand clear at least by 1.5 times the length of from any part of the rope or wire in every direction. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
