Hi foks, I have noticed recently that everytime I get into the car (after leaving it a while or overnight) I notice a distinct 'oily' smell - can't describe any better. Of course, as you get used to it, you don't notice it after a short while until the next time you leave the car for a bit.

Might be worth checking the area by the red arrow, common problem to drip oil here through the base of the joint, though not heard of it producing an oil smell in the cabin, may depend on the quantity though. Fix for the drip is to use a jubilee clip instead of the silly spring clamp they use.

After a decent drive whip the engine cover off and check on top of engine around the injectors for pooling diesel. Fumes from this cooking off and coming into cabin from leaking fuel return pipes doesn't smell good. |

Check sealing gromit at base of steering wheel. If it comes loose it is a frequent culprit of unwanted noise and smells.
