Thank you jules and Petero for taking the time to reply with your very helpful advice!

I called Bell Engineering and had a chat with them, and with winter coming on and me having very heavy work commitments for the foreseeable future coupled with the risk of the splined coupling being stuck (this would be a nightmare to sort in Switzerland & stupidly expensive) I made an appointment with them to do the job on our next UK visit.
