Been sorting through some of my dads old stuff in the attic whilst fetching some Christmas decorations down and came across some gems. Any thoughts on value? eBay suggests between £100 and £200 for the camera alone.

Camera and lens have a limited value but the rest won’t be worth much. In its day it was a expensive bit of kit.

I have to agree, its more likely people would want an old camera as an ornament, often seen for £10 in charity shops, a good old lens can still be used these days with many an adaptor to fit different mounts, however that 135mm lens looks like it could be full of mould, your photo of it suggests its either dirty outside the glass or mouldy inside moisture is a killer . . . 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

I had piles of 35mm, including 3 bodies & 2 motor drives, gave it all to a student who was interested in film photography. Kept the flash which I use occasionally. Other than that throw it in the bin. Also have a pile of 67 medium format, 2 bodies, 6 lenses, which I quite haven't been able to put in the bin yet. Door stop material at best. Some of my better 45 medium format lens I use on my Canon via an adaptor.

Doc, rather than Ebay, speak with Howard Parker at West Yorkshire Cameras - they are in the centre of Leeds.

The problem with photographic equipment is that it depreciates faster than JLR cars. Even electronic DSLR cameras have little second hand value after a four or five years in my experience. As for film cameras just look on eBay at cameras like the Canon T90, which was one of Canon's most sophisticated film cameras, now at give away prices and there are loads available with no bids. Best to keep them and eventually they will become collectors items but not for a long time yet. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Just remembered, if you want a couple of expensive Hassleblad cameras there are a couple on the Moon left by Apollo astronauts. Apparently NASA said that they are free to anyone who wants them. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I had a Minolta X-300 which I traded for an X-700 with a data back and motor winder. I still have that along with a yet another X-700, a Minolta Dynax 3000i. There is also a selection lenses, flashes, filters etc and a bit of collection of both film and digital point and shoot cameras.

I had 3 of the X-700 great camera. The 20mm lens was good. 24mm was rubbish. The 250mm mirror lens was brilliant & so compact, actually had 2 of them, found a second one & bought it as a spare. Probably the one lens that would have been worth keeping! But the gear found a good home & I had never seen a person so happy to get a pile of old stuff that I was very close to putting in the bin at the time as I could not be bothered wasting time & effort on. For the photos we take, mainly on holiday, we have a cheap as chips Nikon Coolpix P330. It’s ok but tiresome having to download everything to the computer when we get home, especially if we want to send them on anywhere. Not being anything more than holiday snappers, is there an alternative that’s not going to cost an arm and leg? |
