probably ages, I know we have a laugh at work looking at our own houses on google maps and trying to 'age' the images by the colour of cars, shape of gardens, house extensions etc, etc ....

the image of my house is at least three years old .... but of course that is satellite imaging, I wonder what the black astra was taking pictures of ???

Have seen three tele-atlas (as used by TomTom) satnav mapping vehicles in the last month ... Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

The camera car is for Google Street View - giving 360 degree panoramas at street level. See http://maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview/. I don't think it's live yet for UK maps but you can see it in action on US ones.

There is a lot of controversy with Google Streetmap. It will basically allow to view as though you are in the middle of the road and pan through 360 degrees. Problem is that burglars will be able to use the system to view the front of your house to see if you have an alarm box fitted from the comfort of their own armchair!!! I pity anybody with a flash car up their drive when the black Astra drove past coz the car thieves will be targeting you too!!! Modern technology - dont you just love it!!
