Playing iPhone music through car audio system

Hi all,

I have been unable to find a way to play music from a phone ever since I got the car 5 years ago. The car's music centre allows one to connect a phone for calls, presumably using bluetooth, but doesn't seem to allow one to play media through it.

There is a black cable in the glove box, that has probably been added by a previous user, and which ends in a 30 pin Apple style female plug. Connecting a white Apple cable to that allows phone charging but not the playing of music.

This could be that I need a certain type or quality of cable that has the wiring to allow media playing or that the car system is simply not setup to allow for playing media.

Any thoughts, advice or experiences in this area would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Do you have a 3.5mm socket on the rear of your centre consul - right hand side?

If so - that is the AUX input socket for the radio. I use a Bluetooth receiver which plugs into that - and then can stream music to the radio.

The Bluetooth receiver was a few pound of ebay.

There is no Aux socket visible from the front and I'm not sure how to remove the whole radio/CD unit to check behind. If what you say is so then it would be ideal.

The 3.5 mm socket that is being referred too is located right at the back of the centre console behind the rearmost 12volt power socket which is just behind the handbrake. It looks just like a small hole in the console and could easily be overlooked. Thumbs Up

Scotland

Ive got a Bluetooth streaming module for sale - £15 posted to uk.
I used that to stream music from my iPhone when I had the FL2.
I could operate the steering wheel volume controls with it, but cannot fast forward/rewind.
It also plugs in to the power socket so it remains on full charge.
1st dibs to the OP, but if no response in a couple of days, 2nd dibs gets it

FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Aux socket does not work . . . .

I purchased one of those Bluetooth wireless receivers which works well with the aux socket on my hi-fi system but when I plugged it in to the aux socket behind the power socket on the centre panel in the car and selected Aux on the player, nothing happened except a quiet hiss.

I’m guessing the connection between the socket and the player is broken or corroded or similar so I wanted to ask how easy is it to get at that cabling to check continuity? Can the player be easily removed to replace connection to the back of required?

Thanks

I had a 30 pin cradle on mine, following it back lead to the LR ACM module.
Might be worth checking it out as you can get a new lead that works with the new Apple lightening cable.
