Driving in France is great, empty roads away from the cities and good food to be found in some of the small town restaurants.

This year will be the first time I will have used them but like you, friends have used them and all say how good they are. Modern ships and much cheaper than P&O. |

We eventually reached the other side of the river from the town to be greeted with this bridge, appar ntly built by the romans. I would have had to take the sill steps off to get across

Driving RHD across Europe you'll probably need to get the front seat passenger involved . A few other things: Remember that your dipped beam needs changing so buy a beam deflector (lots on ebay) or, if you have xenon lamps, change the beam over (see handbook). Remember to take all your original documents with you, including driving licence, car registration document and insurance documents. In UK drivers tend not to carry them but in mainland Europe they take a different view. If you do encounter the Police they will invariably ask for them and in some countries, like here, you risk having the car impounded until they are produced. Land Rover Assistance will cover breakdown but it's not a bad idea to put all relevant emergency phone numbers into your mobile in advance. That way you're guaranteed not to need them Include too your hotels, ferry etc. For long journeys give the second key to SWMBO as a safeguard just in case one gets lost (hopefully not the one you gave her). One final thing, when you take off after a break take a second or two to think about where you should be driving. I know it sound obvious but when you're on auto pilot it's all too easy to end up on the wrong side of the road. Draw up a checklist, plan well ahead and you'll enjoy the trip. |

Not sure if it has been mentioned earlier, but at least in Scandinavia (Norway & Sweden) you MUST carry a red reflective warning triangle in the boot and at least one or preferably two red or yellow fluorescent warning vests IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR for use in the unlikely event of a breakdown - Here it is law, but I am not sure about the rest of Europe. The vests are cheap and can be purchased at any filling station. The triangle comes with every sold car here. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
