I'm getting the odd low battery warning on the audio unit, especially after a week of not being used, so suspect that the battery could do with a charge, I only drive around town and mostly short journeys - can I charge it on the car?

I have both a trickle charger and also a normal 15A charger but was told by someone that you should only charge the battery off the car (or at least disconnected) as the increased charging voltage can damage sensitive electronic components. However, I was also told that if I disconnect the battery I will need to reset certain items - windows etc.


Can anyone advise either way and what to do etc. if things need resetting please?

I often keep cars on a tricle charger (CTEK) for months at a time and I never disconnect the battery. Just be careful when connecting and disconnecting. driving on the right side

if you have a towbar trickle charge via that, I do the cars that way when needed also have a fly lead on the motorbike and lawnmower.

I think your car has stop/start
if it does it will need a charger suitable for Stop/start as these charge at a different voltage. Not all chargers are suitable for AGM stop start batteries.
If you use a normal charger it will dry out the absorption matts very fast indeed and render the battery useless Jaguar x-type sport gone

The stop start should not be an issue as it is only fitted to manual gearbox versions and not automatics.

if it has a AGM battery, it will be a smart charge & still requires a suitable charger specific Jaguar x-type sport gone
