The 12 volt power socket in the boot I replaced with an Anderson plug. I put a 3mm spacer behind the plug so it sits 3mm off the panel, another 3mm 27mm diameter disc to fit the 12 volt hole & used an Anderson T handle to clamp behind the trim panel with some Nyloc nuts. Drilled one new hole in the handle so it was in a better position.

I drilled 2 holes in the back of the Anderson plug to pull the wires through, once the contact lugs were in place. At the back end of the plug, I had some large clear rubber feet, cut them a touch over size & pressed them into the back on the plug.

When bolted in place you do not need to drill any holes in the panel. Also put a 2 way plug on the back of the new plug so I didn't need to cut any to the car's wires. Also put some large heatshrink over the plug although not really necessary.

12 volt power without the plug ever breaking electrical contact.

An Anderson plug is a heavy duty connector normally used when a quick release connection is needed on a high amp draw item like jump leads, winches, compressors etc. They are also used on electric forklifts to connect the battery packs to the forklift and the forklift charger will also have an Anderson plug connector to allow a quick connection for battery charging. I have one fitted to my front grille that I can plug jump leads into which saves the need to open the bonnet and remove the battery cover to connect up the jump leads. The AA, RAC etc all use a similar set up for jumpstarting(or used to)

I probably use it once or twice a month. I am lucky enough to have the use of a piece of ground and a container to work from where I potter about in my spare time and usually have an old Landrover project on the go which is kept there. My "rent" is usually jump starting the owners ride on lawn mower when it won`t start. I have also jump started a good few buses in the adjacent car park for the birds of prey centre when the driver has ran the battery down listening to the radio whilst waiting for his passengers to return. I have a set of 10metre cables so don't have to get that close to whatever needs started which can be useful when access is limited. It has a keyed switch to the left of the plug which connects power to the plug when it is needed.

Anyone down under knows that corrugated roads requires Anderson plugs for cold beer! I got fed up with the 12 volt plug working loose.

Additionally the pressed metal outside of the 12 volt socket is too thin & had very poor electrical contact & would overheat (photo attached). A bit of a fire hazard.

I also rewired the fridge as the 1.5m power cord & 55cm of cable inside the fridge were 16 AWG at best, that's a 0.22 voltage drop on this small run alone. So swapped for 12 AWG & shortened everything & wire changes to 6 AWG to the battery.

The 50 amp Anderson outlet in the boot still has the 15 amp LR fuse. More than enough for my needs.
The shortest possible cable on the fridge, also added a circuit breaker as the standard lead had a fuse.
