Just trying to replan my Highlands fishing trips folks and was wondering about a little advice, now to miss the costly motorway services I usually leave here ( Ceredigeon )with full tank refill in Morrisons Wrexham ( £25-£30 ) which gets me to Callender in Scotland usually chuck £20 in there to get me to Morrisons in Fort William to fill up again but what I am hoping is that someone can tell me that the Morrisons in Penrith or Carlisle is not far off the motorway to detour off to fill up there on the way up which would get me to Fort William with only the one stop.

Are you saying you do 550 miles to a tank? Anyone else as I must have a problem? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Not around town, but I’ve done this journey enough times to be confident to mention it here. Mpg calculated fill to fill going back to the same pump for the last 8 years is running at 33.12 with a minimum of about 26 and a maximum when driving to and around Scotland and back going up to 41. A fill of 13.5 gallons at 41 mpg gives a range of 553 miles.

Last time I filled up there it was Tesco that's by Lloyds LR in Carlislie off Jnct 43. However it's always a busy petrol station and I hate faffing around in queues [find Morrisons in Penrith the same]. Go up & down this area fairly frequently [swmbo does a there 'n back every week] We now always stop and fill up at the Rheged centre at the same Penrith Jnct 40. Fuel is pretty reasonably priced and there's a great shop, plus you've always got the varied services of the Rheged centre to enjoy and break up the journey. https://www.rheged.com/info/filling-station/ FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:- Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip, Bluetooth Music Streaming Module. |

It's the difference between manual and auto - a manual will easily give 500+ on long runs (I've had 600+ a number of times on long main road runs), but the auto is a lot thirstier (7mpg thirstier according to LR's own figures for the earlier model years, that's perhaps conservative!). |

Ah thanks pab romp thanks for that too this is my plan now as the fuel in Callender is pricey and queues ridiculous.

I used to fill up in Carlsle when I had a tin dog kennel, didn't need it with the Freely as I used a different route, then ditched the tin and could drive from north west of Glasgow to either Dunkirk or Calais without stopping, always had over 20 miles of fuel left, the range left is a bit vague as it calculates on the last average of not sure, I have been down to zero once going up hill then plus 5 on the flat but it's pretty accurate after a long run my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
