New to the board, but not FL / LR...

My current FL1 TD4 clutch slave cylinder has gone, and with everything else, its not economical to repair, so I'm looking for a FL2.

Budget isn't great at around £5.5k, but there are some around.

Went to see one today (07 reg), but walked away. Interior and body were very good condition but was surprised how much rust was on the rear subframe and chassis rails.

Is it normal to have rust issues on a FL2 of this age?
My FL1 certainly didn't have as much corrosion, and that was an 02 reg...

It's quite unusual for them to rust just about anywhere to be fair. I would like to think that the one that you viewed had a former life near an ocean somewhere...plenty more out there to look at

better looking as far South as possible, and certainly avoid North of Scotland for a less rusty example.

Thanks both; must admit given the interior and body was excellent condition, I was surprised to see it that bad underneath.
It was in Peterborough, so guess it could have originated from somewhere on the East coast...

Motor trader selling it must have been aware though as it had poor spray of underseal (over the dirt!) along the side sills; looks like they were trying to hide the real condition  Current: FL2 TD4 2008 HSE

I have a 2007 with 195,000 miles on the clock - based near Aberdeen. Passed MOT but rust on rear axle noted. There is rust appearing everywhere - wheel arches, bottom of doors, all over tailgate, everywhere underneath is an oxidation oasis. Below spare tyre looks Lancia like ! We buy any car value it at £1380 - I suspect when they see it in the flesh this will drop to £138 which should cover the cost of an extra USB on a Velar !

2007, 200K miles, no spec of rust, anywhere...

Last year the MOT tester again commented on how clean it was underneath . However, since last MOT , it seems to have a lot of surface rust appearing. The exhaust is now starting to look like it's come off the wreck of the Mary Rose. It's not leaking, but it's going to be replaced fully before the next MOT.

Last month my MOT tester said, "i guess you have a gravel drive" Yes i said, how can you tell? "By how much rust you have underneath" was his reply. I live in the Cotswolds and indeed my driveway is gravel.
I always thought parking outside was good because of the constant airflow around the vehicle. but it seems gravel drives are always evaporating moisture into the surrounding air.

Apparently up to 15% of sand and gravel in the UK is dredged from the sea bed

I would imagine it depends upon the substrate of the gravel drive, we had gravel for over 30 years and never had any issues with rusty vehicles, then again it was layed over a solid concrete sub base.

If the gravel is directly over earth then I would imagine it would be the same as parking in a field......  Regards
