Cambelt and water pump changed today

Finally bit the bullet and had the cambelt and water pump changed on my 61 reg today as its done just over 83,000 miles.

Over the past few weeks I rang around a few places and most places including main stealers and independents wanted between £500 and £600 until I phoned Peter Vardy the main dealer in Aberdeen, who quoted me £617.63 but when I asked if there was any movement on this came down to £466.12 including parts, labour and vat.

So this morning I went over to Aberdeen to find a very posh dealership and was met at the door, offered a very nice coffee and shown to the service reception where I was booked in and given a very nice 67 reg evoque hse dynamic for the day whilst the work was done. On returning just after 4.30pm I was again met at the door and taken to a young lady who asked if I'd liked the evoque, printed off the invoice which showed the agreed price then after I'd paid fetched my car to the door.

Overall very good service at what seems a reasonable price and I'll certainly consider them again if required. Life's too short, enjoy yourself

Interesting that they dropped the price a fair bit.
Which independents did you use out of interest? I'm in the same area so be good to know. Ive used Greenbank a few times but they don't answer the phone so can never get it booked in or find out anything Rolling Eyes
Funnily enough on the Land Rover fixed price servicing price list cambelt change on the FL is listed at £395. (without the waterpump)

Hi snappa, I stay near Keith so wouldn't normally go over to Aberdeen but tried a couple of garages around Keith along with Pentland Land Rover in Elgin and Ewens Honda in Cornhill.

Have to admit I didn't look at the fixed price cost. Life's too short, enjoy yourself

not a bad price

I contacted my nearest dealer for a quote on timing belt replacement and the estimate was 3 times that ,$3000 min . Maybe they were going to include a top of the range coffee machine as a gift .

run away inflation

I certainly is ,I buy most of my LR parts from the UK including most filters even with the high cost of freight I am still in front . As far as the timing belt goes I will be doing it myself , I worked for many years repairing large diesel engines on ships and earth moving gear but not to keen on the small stuff but as my old boss said "its only nuts and bolts" . Got the special tools off ebay and will be doing it at the next service, 200k

From Google, Average Australian is now earning about £35K (converting from AUD).

My daughter lives in Victoria. She says tradesmen get paid well and need qualifications (unlike UK general builders).

Probably explains why DIY is so popular in Oz.
I love Bunnings

Bunnings bought Homobase, and lost shed-loads in the deal within 6 months of it going through. Which is why aforementioned Homobase are closing stores left right and centre in the UK.

The only winners in this sorry saga were Great Universal (read Argos)
