Looks odd, if you grab the inner part (of the drive shaft) can you "wobble" it around? Regards

Yes it looks like the joint has popped. It is relatively easy to pop back in though. If you can turn the shaft a little either way in relation to the "pot" you should be able to feel when the 2 parts are aligned and the shaft should push back into the end of the joint. Its a fairly common thing when the driveshaft gets over extended. Good luck! |

Looks like the drive shaft dropped and either pulled out or is suspect the UV joint has been pulled into a lock up situation. As said a good wiggle and try and realign should see it pop back into alignment. If you’ve managed to refit your control arm and tightened the shaft nut you probably have to undo it all to get the freedom of movement on the drive shaft. |

Thanks for helping me identify why I am having problems fitting the control arm. I will give it a joggle and hopefully it pops back in. |

NOOOOOOO don't give it a joggle.... you need to give it a good wiggle as per Brit Plumbers post.... if you need to give it a jiggle then you've gone too far

Personally, I'd flip the large CV clip off to check that the needle roller cage hasn't popped off one of the prongs on the joint. It'll also be easier to fit back together. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Don't apologise, humour always helps when things don't go to plan! |

The clip is in one piece but has a little stepped part that crimps together when you are fitting it . You might be able to get a screwdriver in the gap to open it up a little which will slacken the clip. Then you can close the gap again when it is in back in place. Failing that you can normally feel through the rubber gaiter to check that the roller cages are still in place. A CV joint has 3 fingers or prongs with a roller bearing on the end of each finger and you can feel these through the rubber boot. |

This might help to show how it fits together.

Thanks Dorset and all the replies. I couldn't get it back in with any amount of wiggling. I had to take the whole thing out and line it up on the ground with the gaiter off. Packed with grease and now waiting for my gaiter clip crimpers to arrive so no water can get in, eek. |

I have used a large jubilee clip on a gaiter on a Renault gaiter and that was OK for a couple of years and MOTs. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
