On a similar note today I was on the motorway and saw this ......







....it's a 'Special Vehicles FL2 commercial' for WPD (Western Power Distribution) Telecom. Popular around the Taunton area.

In the past I have seen a FL2 paramedic vehicle. Only seen a few on the road, in that time. I was able to inspect one two years ago. Basically it became a 3 seater (driver/front passenger/rear passenger 40% seat.) where the 60% rear seat was had been made into a sliding drawer system (probably by Bott) the door card had been removed and replaced with a white flat fiberglass panel. The whole rear load space area was for medical/electronic equipment.
As you can see the rear door windows and rear quarter windows were replaced with fiberglass panels.

If I can find the photos I have have seen a Disco 2 with a similar conversion.

Unfortunately, not a huge benefit to Solihull anymore, although the boys from Slovakia should be happy

There was an early evaluation car fitted with the 2 litre Ignoramus engine, but that seems to have been canned, I suspect much to a collective sigh of relief to those that have to pull artic’s out of the way for a living

The battenburg even brakes up the flabby slab sides a bit, while the dayglo (matching the rear plate) helps hide the rear offset plate. It would have been safer for the users if they’d fitted the full set of rear lights, in place of the crazy black plastic blanks I’m sure they’d appreciate that, especially when parked up in 70mph traffic, on a wet winter’s night, on the hard shoulder of the M6 (or similar)

Have to agree Tigger - the livery on the HA Disco does make it easier on the eye for me.
Same applies for any liveried working vehicle, always think a car that 'works' for a living is more interesting to look at.

Cant see why the 2 litre would have been sufficient though - they spend most of the time dawdling along below the speed limit and I am sure when the need comes to tow a HGV the small engine wont be found lacking once low range comes into the equation, not exactly needing to tow far or fast after all. Andrew

They are called on to exceed their towing limit from time to time though, the 3.5 tonne limit can be stretched a little to around 44 tonnes when a laden arctic needs to be moved out of the way. A 2.0 litre 4 might be found a little too puny then
