P0087 / P2290 / P0380 / P1259

Swapped two diesel filters in the last year, swapped the crankshaft sensor at the weekend still there DAMN.

Was going away for work and had to give up as it was just playing up so much.

Get the limp home mode and then at times it just cuts out completely.

The most common cause of code P1259 is flat batteries in keys, with abnormal system voltages caused by faults and defects in the charging system that could damage control modules following close behind. Other possible cause could include the following-

Open circuits in the CAN system
Damaged, burnt, shorted, or corroded wiring and connectors
Loss of ground to some modules
Defective immobilizer modules. Note that this is a relatively rare event, but not altogether impossible.
Defective electronics and/or programming errors in the key, fob, or keyless entry system
Failed, or defective aftermarket immobilizer bypass devices.
Failed, or failing PCM. Note that this is also a rare event, and the fault must be sought elsewhere before any controller is replaced.

What are the symptoms of code P1259?
One symptom shared by all applications is that the vehicle won’t start, although in some cases, the engine may still crank. Other possible symptoms could include the following-

Flashing security-system related warning lights.
In some cases, the engine may switch off a few seconds after starting.
In cases where intermittent faults in the wiring cause a momentary loss of communication, the engine may shut off or stall unexpectedly. This will be accompanied by security-system related warning lights.

Battery is a few months old and fine...

That one is probably from the messing around turning it off and on and stuff when trying to get it going in a hurry when stopped on the motorway

It's just a glitch i think in the system whilst it's messing around that's not what is the issue it's the hiccuping from lack of fuel... I pray it is at the injector end and a nozzle or something as opposed to a new fuel pump... 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

Your car battery may be a few months old but what about your Fob Battery ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Never had a single issue with it and swapped the battery out ourselves in one of the two and it does it on both... that doesn't make it decide to go into limp home and then get starved off fuel... 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

If your key fob is not coding into the car correctly and vice versa could it not throw it into limp mode ? and that area is one of your 4 fault codes is it not. I would not presume that a new battery will cure all as some coding issues could come into play now and then.

I have no idea of all the security or safety shut outs of delivering fuel but no doubt there are some that interact with the start up and running procedure that is initiated with insertion of a key fob and its removal. Have you got a downloaded copy of the repair manual ? There may be something listed in there against the fault codes. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

HAH, cheaper than expected.

3rd Fuel filter within a year.... No more Tesco Diesel.... it got distinctly worse after a tesco fill just before Xmas.

The garage said the fuel lines were full of crap as well as the filter. So have changed them, and the consensus is it "goes like stink" now

Was worried i might need a new fuel pump etc.. so that's ok.

Also it still pops up a warning about glow plugs being low, he said it starts fine still, but I said while you have it there might as well change the glow plugs. So that's being done as well. 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

The times I hear about supermarket fuel,glad it’s sorted.

Glad the source of the problem has been found out. If it was that bad you may have some recourse with Tesco.

Are you saying ALL the fuel lines from the tank forward have been changed ? Did they flush the tank ?

I use ASDA fuel but place an additive in every 3 tanks or so. The additive came from the local indie after my EGR valve screwed up and arrived in a 2lt plastic milk bottle but I thinks its a Mobil oils product (came out of 45 Gallon drum). FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I'm not sure how many of the fuel pipes they changed i'm assuming a full flush as you say but when i pick it up this afternoon or tomorrow morning i'll find out for sure.

never had an issue with sainsbury's that i've noticed but then it's cheap and a add in every few tanks or just buy bp in the first place and don't worry about an additive... Think i'm going the BP route 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

I've used Sainsbury's for years with no problems in both the FL2 and the works van, herd to many bad stories with Tesco fuel.
