Tasmania holiday

Back from a month in Tasmania. The car drove really nicely on Tasmania's pretty ordinary roads. Also a lot of them are very narrow, windy & bumpy, but the car really drove nicely, really nicely! A good solid test to see how well the car performs. I couldn't be happier. Even more so that I have added acoustic insulation. It simply makes the quality of driving so much nicer. Still going to add a bit more but it is really impressive so far, even more so on the concrete roads south of NSW. https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic33026.html The larger tyres on the car makes it feel a lot better. The acoustic insulation has cut back the noise from the all terrain tyres to a level better than road tyres. The car with road tyres & acoustic insulation would be very impressive.

Spirit of Tasmania. In 1992 we were on a catamaran, same as between England & France a few years ago.

I went to Cradle Mountain but from about 8am till 5pm it is shuttle buses now. As I have been there before a few times & got there a touch late in the morning & have a lot of nice Fujifilm Velvia slides from years ago, I gave it a miss.

At Lake St Clair I stopped to have a quick look. I was shocked at the size of the carpark for the area. I had to run back to the car & drive off as there was a Ranger checking each car that they had a Parks Pass!

Probably worth getting an annual park pass if you are doing all the various walks as a day pass is one quarter of the price at $24.

Make sure you don't have any fruit or vegetables or honey as quarantine is very strict. Also dirty 4WDs, owners will be ordered to clean their cars before allowing to leave Devonport to get on your way. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Had the fruit thing already a couple of times on our trip from WA to NSW. It's a pain in the nether regions but understand the reasons.

We liked the Freelander we bought in NZ so much we have just changed our tow tug from a Pajero to a Discovery. We're currently in Brisbane doing grandparent duties for another couple of months so that gives us a chance to get it set up how we want it before hitting the road again.

It's about as much as I see these days!

Now onto the real issues of life..... Velar, LR subject! I was quite shocked how short the height of the Velar is. I had seen a few driving around & parked but have never looked closely at them. The target buyers probably have a tiny twenty first digit!

One of the reasons we bought the Freelander was that we were sick & tired of being surrounded by all the tall vehicles on Sydney roads & couldn't see anything. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

You will save a bucket load in fuel costs with the Disco & a far nicer ride. You could bleed the air tank for pumping tyres up for the outback roads. It's worth the effort to get tyre pressure right.

We looked at the Disco but wanted a petrol engine, & for Sydney parking the Freelander was shorter than all the other cars we looked at. Pumping up tyres, we are very quick now even with the TPMS on the valves.

Also garage size was an issue, cars were a lot smaller in the 1950s!

When returning from Tassie to "Australia" I was asked do I have any guns. No, I am a Green voter! They searched the car, even having to lift the bonnet as they were looking for guns, IEDs & rocket launchers etc. Probably being a Green voter they are sh_t scared of our weapons of mass destruction, solar panels, which they looked at, as we want to annihilate the current government's fundamentalistic coal policies! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
