First Service

Okay, the FL2 is coming up for it's first service next month.

Strastones, Central Scotland - original supplying dealer, are ringing me up offering it to me for £369 all in and if I want an engine flush and something to do with the aircon, it's another £39 on top of that. I have to say they do a rather nice job of valeting the vehicle when it's in, but it's not worth that. There might be a credit crunch on, but no need to screw me to keep their firm afloat.

Dickieland in Inverness, near me is offering £299 all in.

I see Farnells is offering the same at £249 all in.

Lastly, a LR dealer in Gateshead is £220 roughly. It would cost me £70 in diesel for a round trip, but then there is the Metro Centre and a nice day or two away.

I don't mind travelling and can normally work it in with some trip south. Anything better than this folks?

Frankly, any of those last lot are a bargain!. Mine is in at Lancaster Reading next week for its first service for the princely sum of £347.01 (don't forget the penny!)

Then the road tax is due at the end of the month - £210
And the Insurance happens to be at the same date - £236

£793.01 (don't forget the penny!) to stay on the road...... Chris

Just had mine done last week at Lloyd Land Rover, Carlisle, where it was bought.

£274.91 inc VAT, loan FL2 and wash.

Yours sounds a bit on the dear side.

Stratstone Edinburgh sent me a letter last week with a booking time and date to get my car serviced . This week they phoned me but there is no danger I'm going to a dealer for servicing at the prices they charge. I had my last Freelander for nearly 5 years and never got it serviced once at a Landrover dealer, never got the book stamped, had loads of warranty work done without a problem and still got full book price when I traded it in for my FL2. Very Happy

I posted this on a thread "Service by Independent Repairers" started by MABO on the General Forum on the 10th. February 09 but it does not seem to have been noticed so am repeating it here as in my opinion it it is of the most importance.

If we all want to retain the right to have our vehicles serviced/repaired by independent garages you should go on to the following website and sign the petition as in 2010 legislation which requires all manufacturers to provide access to the computer codes for our vehicles expires and the EU does not intend to renew it. Do not forget without these codes no technician can work on you car and in some cases even changing the battery requires the ECU to be rest.

Its in our own hands so go to www.r2rc.co.uk and sign.

Hi, thanks to everyone for their replies. They were really informative. TTC, talk about unfortunate! The FL2 is the wifes car, although I end up paying for it. She has her eye on the LRX as her next one in a year or two, so watch out!

She went to the Tescos garage to get some diesel the other day and couldn't open the filler cap. Se had to ask some guy to get it open for her. He made the coment that she couldn't have put fuel in it very much, which went down like a ton of s Censored t. God was she mad when she got home! I laughed, but not in front of her. I suppose her getting fuel once in one year aint bad going! Her VED is due at the end of this month and the insurance in June, so not quite as bad as you, but she is already making noises about her monthly pay going down the tubes when you take all three together, which is a bit of a joke, 'cos it will be me dipping into my pocket again.

Anyway, I think I'll play the 'price match' game and see what comes of it. I appreciate what people say about independent garages and yes it's a good cause. I'll certainly sign up. Cheers, now off to bed and probably find madam has either put it on Sauna level or off totally.
