Just a guess but I would suggest that the transmission oil is due replacement.

I did have these thuds a couple of years ago, then they went away, Ford 2.0L ecoboost petrol engine, MY13 68,000km mostly straight roads with a headwinds in the outback. City driving 5k km at most for the total kms of the car. If the issue ever resurfaces I will ask my mechanic. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I had the same thud and an auto gearbox flush and reset at a Fedauto member fixed it.
