The car went for it's first MOT on Monday and passed with flying colours but yesterday I noticed the headlights (set on auto on the switch) were coming on despite it being quite bright, although raining. Anyone any idea as to what could cause this?

Reg, mine does tend to be more ready to come on when its raining. Both the rain sensor (for the wipers) and light sensor are on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror. I guess sensitivity may be increased when the rain sensor is activated too. Its no bad thing to have the lights on when its raining anyway. Maybe, for us, its just dark in Notts! NB. You can always turn the switch to "off" 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Thanks for the replies. It is what I was also thinking but wanted other views. No need to bother the dealer when it goes in for other warranty work next week. 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

You will also find that at this time of year when the sun is still quite low in the sky the headlights will come on. It is not a fault but a characteristic of most automatic headlight systems. |

Look at this previous reply. I don't believe you have a fault, it's just the way the lights are programmed.
