I am approaching a decision point. I have a 14 reg XS SD4 auto with 44k miles, it's a lovely car, I have had it for nearly two years as an approved used and the only problem has been with a door lock. In mId March the warranty will run out and I am faced with a £900ish bill for extended warranty plus a service (£275) plus an MOT (£57?). Or I can trade it in and buy an approved used DS . Finding the money is not an issue. What would you do? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Only you could decide that! Would be a case of spending £1,200 on keeping the Freelander or perhaps £12,000 trading in the Freelander and buying a D.S. Unless you were fed up with the car and wanted a change for change sake I would stick with the Freelander! (just my 2p)

You don't seem to have made a compelling argument for losing the Freeo.
Every car will cost you money, that's what they are for.

Well I bought my Metropolis 10 months ago.

Tried the DS and it wasn’t for me.

Had a DS courtesy car last month and that just convinced me I did the right thing.

Service due in April
Inchcape quoted £275 for service A .plus £40 for mot

Approved warranty still in force

To be honest I wouldn’t even do a straight swap for a DS!

you've already said the Freelander is a lovely car, so is the DS an actual improvement over the Freelander and your needs?
Yes it's nice to have a new motor on the drive but only you can make that decision.

I’m in the “keep the Freelander” camp! But then, I am running a nine-year old FL2 and never had a warranty. I guess you need to ask whether the added cash you put in now, provides you with sufficient “utility” to be worth the cost. How you value “utility” is up to you - better quality vehicle, peace of mind, reduced risk, reduced downtime, warm cosy glow, whatever. Personally, I can’t see any way for that equation to come out positive on a DS! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

I've never paid for a warranty or in fact needed one, I have had mine 8 year's and often looked at replacing it 70k on the clock but it's a nice car to drive. There's only the DS that I may swap it for but prefer the higher driving position on the FL2.

Just my opinion what I would do.

1. Keep Freelander but don’t renew warranty

2. Change the Freelander for a Japanese car ie Nissan, Toyota or Subaru

3. I would not go anywhere near a Discovery Sport if you want reliability

If money is not an issue what the hell are you doing driving around in a old Freelander 2 get a new Range Rover

Keep it , The £900 plus for an extended warranty is worthwhile just for peace of mind . I find looking for new cars soul destroying . I believe you used to have company cars ? If you did you’ll probably be like me and have had enough of them that you can’t get excited about a new car purchase.

Ps Subaru Japan have killed the golden goose , and won’t sell a Diesel engine . They brought enough stock in to keep the dealers in UK going for a year past the official date , but they were exhausted in 2018 . You now only have petrol until they bring in their petrol /hybrid vehicles . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Keep the Freelander.

Brother has a DS, and it has been back to the dealer so many times he's lost count. Nothing mechanical (yet) but everything electrical issues. Software appears to be a major problem on this car - he won't buy another one.

Meanwhile, my Freelander keeps on chugging along, with no issues whatsoever......

I remember a guy, from the original Freelander Club, buying one of the first FL2's. It spent more time in the dealers having 'silly' software updated than enough, even one for the sunroof !!!

But, in the end we all bought one ......... Ho Hum
