Key fob location?

Sorry guys if this has been answered to death.
I've searched but can't find a definitive answer.
I've owned an MY13 for a couple of months but I'm still confused as the best
location to put the key whilst driving.
I regularly rotate both keys but when I enter the car, the key goes on the mat in front of the gear stick however it lands.
Is this the optimum place to keep it charged.
Cheers,
Andrew.

If it’s like the Evoque you get a npmessage on the dash telling you when the battery is getting low. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Don't think the batteries charge up on that mat in front of gear lever but I just keep my key fob in my pocket. Batteries last usually well over a year. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green
