Not sure what model the launch price of £28,995 would be for! This puts its in a different price league alltogether. I would seriously consider buying a D3 for that bit extra.

I've asked the question in the Freelander's Owners forum to see if the OP can put that price in context. The list price for a base model D3 without air suspension is £27k (inc VAT) Shocked so hopefully the £28,995 quoted is for something towards the top of the range Rolling Eyes

If £28,995 is the "starting price" then that would be a £8,995 (44.5%) hike on what LR are currently quoting on their web site for the current TD4 base model. Bill

About £35K for an HSE. This is a similar hike to the D2 to D3. No auto on the diesel until March either Evil or Very Mad

Bit confusing calling it the TD4 too, makes folks think it has only got the (very good!) BMW 2.0l 4 pot when it has the Pug/Cit/Ford 2.2 HDi engine which is even better!

I'm taking the quoted prices and the model nomenclature with a grain of salt.

Jeez, 28k pounds puts it at over Aus$66,000. The current TD4 Auto is in the mid $40k range and you would probably get one under $40k if you tried hard. That is Aus$16,000 more than I can buy a mid range Prado or Pajero and above low spec LandCruiser and Nissan Patrol and only $3k less than the Volvo XC90. All the above have 7 seats to start with!

If they are serious about this level of pricing they are intending to sell only to X3 - X5 buyers and ignore current Land Rover owners and that means that within 6 months there will be massive deals being offered by dealers who can't move stock.

This is the sort of hike the D3 saw and consistant with LR premium pricing. The landy will sit where the old freelander did price wise. BTW the face lift defender has a power bulge and a D2 style dash board

My dealer has said that the 07 Defender will have a restyled front end to deal with pedestrian/vehicle safety short comings. It is allgedly going to be loewr and more rounded (not the car, just the front panelling).

Don;t quite know how true this is, I'll just sit abck and wait for it to come out.

Cheers H

My dealer has seen it, the ford engine doesn't fit in the space so a power bulge has been introduced. I think it is out in March. It isn't that different to the existing one though, although a D2 style dash will be a change!

Reports in the Sunday press in the UK are indicating that Freelander 2 pricing will start at £22k to £23k. Bill

That sounds more realistic to me.

I also noticed on a web site somewhere that the sunroof will be standard on all models. I guess they mean in the USA because it seems strange to me if the sunroof were standard as it adds quite a bit to the base price.

I don't know about the UK but in Australia I am sure it will be 750kg unbraked and 2000kg braked with around 125 kg downforce on the tongue.
This is fairly standard for vehicles in this class over here and Land Rover would not want to go below the norm espcially if they want to appeal to Pony Club Mums. Very Happy
