2008 Freelander 2 fuel tank pump

Hi Guy's, hopefully a simple question(s)
I've disconnected the fuel feed to the filter (front left hose) and have turned over the engine expecting to see lots of diesel spilling out. But there is nothing?
Therefore do I have a fuel pump in the tank that is faulty? Or is there no positive feed from the tank, it just balances the tank???
A bit confused, but I might just get there with a bit of help, just that I've read contradictory things..,!!
Phil

United Kingdom

the electric pump in the tank transfers fuel from one side to the other.

It does not send fuel to the engine.

There is a mechanical pump on the engine that sucks the fuel through the filter from the tank - if there is any air in the system the mechanical pump will fail to prime. obviously if the engine is not spinning over the mechanical fuel pump will not work

Lots and lots of info on here about changing the fuel filter, and about priming the fuel system. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Ditto as Andy says.

The Workshop Manual has all the info about correct priming procedure. Jules
