Talking cold starts - who gives the heater plugs an extra go when its cold? Andrew

That's the start of a long slippery slope to early glow plug burn out. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Glow plugs are powered before and again, AFTER starting the engine. After, in order to help combustion and reduce pollution.
Don't know the exact conditions for the "afterglow" time, but I believe, based on my observations, they are energized up until the engine coolant is above about 25 degrees.
So, you see, the extra few seconds before starting the engine is of no importance in the life of a glow plug, considering the time they are on after engine start...

2008 TD4 HSE Auto 88k.. with Ronbox Synergy set to 1 (Eco Mode) I get 30mpg around town at best, 33mpg on a long Run Down Sarf! 1200 miles all roads, 80mph Crusing?
Unless I hold it to 50, then I get high 30's..... but takes 2 days to get to London not one

Is this normal?
Anyone else out there with similar...
