That's the start of a long slippery slope to early glow plug burn out. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Glow plugs are powered before and again, AFTER starting the engine. After, in order to help combustion and reduce pollution.
Don't know the exact conditions for the "afterglow" time, but I believe, based on my observations, they are energized up until the engine coolant is above about 25 degrees.
So, you see, the extra few seconds before starting the engine is of no importance in the life of a glow plug, considering the time they are on after engine start...
Just my 0.02...

The old Td4.e managed 45mpg

Those figures are not unachievable Thumbs Up

Impressive - how do you do it ?

Never more than 45 mph ? Live in a rural, flat non-congested area where there are few junctions ? Jules
