Rear bike carrier and fixed tow bar

To get the rear bike carrier, you need the 'fixed height' tow bar. The photo in the brochure indicates the hook itself is removable (two bolts). What about the remaining bit sticking out.
When not in use, how much does this 'get in the way'.
Does it cause any probelms for reversing or off-road driving?
Is the electirics socket part of the pacakge, or do these need to be specified and paid for separately?

Thanks for any advice. I'm in the process of chosing my options. Almost wish their weren't so many! Its a bit like the menu for a Chinese Takeaway. Hard to decide. Like a spoilt kid, don't want to miss something I'll regret later.

Laughing

I have the one pictured, have no problems with it at all, i built it in to my deal when buying the car, as a towbar with twin electrics, but i presume you would just have to specify whether you need single or twin electrics when ordering.

I don't think it gets in the way off roading at all, obviously on a muddy track with steep inclines it can scrap a little, but people behind me have said it nothing major.

everyday use is find, never knocked my shin on it, little NP uses it as a step to climb into the boot, and i use it when cleaning my car to wipe the roof Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Ones caravan lights and ones power feed for the caravan fridge, battery charger ect

I think they do sell single electrics now, with the new caravans, and i would need some sort of converter if i bought a new van Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I can back up the comments. No issues with the tow bar/ball and the bike rack is excellent. Quick to fit, easy to store when not in use (hangs on the garage wall). Only downside is that you cannot open the tailgate with the rack in place so all the (often muddy) biking kit goes inside (OK to put rear seats down in our case).

I also negotiated it into my sale packge othewise it's an expensive beast but, bonus, I can tow a trailer if I ever get one and I have a built-in, load-spreading, rear recovery point to pull or be pulled!

Finally, the double-edged sword for the departure angle:
Downside - it is less with a tow bar
Upside - the towbar is the first thing to hit so you can check things out without touching down any more sensitive or dentable parts/panels Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
