An Australia couple who bought a new Range Rover Autobiography in 2015, which turned out to be a "catastrophic failure" (sic), have been awarded a refund (plus interest) of $283000 AUD . The biggest automotive refund in Oz history apparently. The couple are now seeking a further $134K AUD of legal costs - they had to be wealthy to contemplate taking JLR/Dealership to court I expect.

One would think any car company would pull their finger out a lot earlier. One unhappy customer is not a good thing in the long run.

Probably to cover cost of borrowing money (or lost interest on savings) & insurance over this period. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

The Freelander & its derivatives do have a dual clutch but it has no relation to a manual gearbox. It has a torque converter which also locks up when it can to be more efficient. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AWTF-80_SC Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
