A few months ago I brought a Tire Pressure Monitoring System from Ebay for less than £25.
The unit has proved to work extremely well,

The unit is so easy to fit, unscrew the dust cap, fit the locking nut, and then screw in the sensor.
The LCD unit has high and low pressure alarm settings which are easy to set up.

The unit is simply double sided taped to the dashboard - just need to be in the sunlight as its solar powered.

The system works by detecting a movement in the tire, and the system jumps into life. With regards to the accuracy, I have checked this against a pressure gauge and its spot on. With regards to the speed of the pressure change - I removed the sensor and within less than 2 seconds the alarm goes off.
So for value for money - its great.

So after a month of having the car TPMS I decided to buy a TPMS for my single axel caravan. So a little research on ebay, and ensuring that the system can manage the higher PSI of the caravan tires.
I found the following on ebay for £35.

Same again - simple set the higher and lower setting, remove the dust caps and fit the sensors.
Velcro the display to the dashboard and all done.

how do the sensors on the valves communicate with the display ? I get that the display is solar powered but how is the valve sensor powered in order to transmit the PSI to the display ?

It simply sends a radio frequency from the tire sensor to the unit.
The sensors have watch batteries which should last a year or 2.

They also send the pressure and the temperature.

sounds like a nice little and very simple addition

am really pleased with it - I have noticed that my rear tire has an extremely slow puncture, 1 PSI per week drop.

If anyone out there has ever had a blow out whilst driving then perhaps a few seconds notice on loss of pressure/high temperature could help manage the issue.
I have never had a blowout so cannot comment. But this feels like I have a little warning.

As for when towing - a loss of pressure at speed could be a whole world of pain.

1 psi a week isn't really a major cause for concern so long as you pump it up at least once a month (which all drivers should do anyway )

Thanks for posting this. I've wanted one of these systems for my caravan for a while but Tyrepal etc are a bit expensive. I assumed that these ebay ones wouldn't have the wireless range for a caravan but it looks like yours work fine.

The range seems very good, just need to ensure that the PSI range can handle the caravan higher pressures.
My van runs at 61PSI.

So check the specs before buying.

i used to run tyrepal setup, when towing i would transffer the sensors off the FL2 on to the twin axle caravan and tow away

normally a couple of years out of a set of batteries, on the sensors and more for the batteries in the receiver

Worth it when towing after a blowout on a caravan Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Put some high vis material around the spanner so you don't loose it.

I bought my set in Broome Western Australia, I was surprised that I could find anything there, but it took me quite a bit of asking to find a retailer, but could buy bull bars by the dozen blind folded!

The ARB box looked like it had been on the shelf a long time. It came with batteries but due to the age of the box I thought I better get some more & CR1632 is not common size in this part of the world. More hunting around in Broome, successful!

The original batteries are still ok! The ARB TPMS only does 4 wheels so it's no good by itself if you are towing. I like the idea of a separate TMPS for a trailer as you can set that one at a different pressure. At 20 PSI for driving on sand I set the alarm at 26 PSI so at 18 PSI it would go off.

With any of these external TPMS just make sure they are done up carefully as you might get a slow leak & you think it is a leak in the tyre. To check take the offending one off overnight & check pressure allowing for a few PSI lower due to colder tyre in the morning.

Adjusting tyre pressure twice or more daily for corrugated / bitumen roads is a little irritating but with 2 people after a few goes you get pretty efficient at letting down & pumping up tyres. The inconvenience of a few extra minutes is vastly outweighed by the peace of mind TPMS display & warning provide.

Now having used it for a few months I would put it on any car & trailer. Also an external TPMS you can take with you for your next car.

I quite like the external TPMS as you can simply put the transmitter on the replacement tyre if the damage is non repairable. Very common down under. It's why we carry a minimum of 2 spare wheels. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
