Bonnet release cable renewal time ?

2007 HSE, the bonnet releases perfectly but never shuts , just 'bounces' off the mechanism. If Ipush back the central prong as shown in the photo with a flathead screw driver, I can then shut it straight away , I have tried grease and loads of WD40 on the part in that hole, none of which makes a difference, is this the symptom of requiring a new cable, ie is the old one stretched maybe ?

If yes, has anyone paid for this to be done, how much ?
MOT in 7 weeks, not sure what they are looking for under the new rules Big Cry

Hi,

Can you tell me what was the problem? I also cannot close the bonnet. Got the bonnet latches out, cleaned and lubricated them, but that made no difference. I am also suspecting the release cable.

Thank you!
