Has anybody fitted a Ronbox, http://www.tuning-diesels.co.uk/our-range/synergy-ronbox-2b/ , to a FL2? If so what was the result?

Thanks

These are very popular on the Jag 2.2D's might help if you check out that forum - Ron who developed the kit has (or did have) a Jag so there's even a link to him as a forum user
I had a CR Tech Bluespark on mine - loved it - search my user name on that forum and you'll find plenty of posts etc

Hi Westville

I was on the Jaguarforum. Same user name, I was the one who (with the immense help of x-dave) who retrofitted Sat Nav to my X-Type.

Good to see that we are still within the brand!

To the OP, I have no experience of these fitments. I remember the Ronbox being a lively subject for discussion though on the jag forum. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

Yeah I remember you and that project you did - you'll be a useful source for any SatNav retro fitters for the FL's then Wink

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for some actual feedback on anyone that may have tried one of these Ronbox Synergy 3 plug in devices on a Freelander 2. His website has quite a few good testimonials for various cars but I'm sure the non critical feedback from our resident guru's on here will be more factual...

I'm more interested in torque and driveability improvements rather than speed, the boy racer days went a long time ago or I wouldn't be in a Freelander Laughing

Thanks

Hi, I fitted one to my 2008 auto this week. I have it on the ECO setting and the difference is amazing. It really is like a different car. Much smoother to drive with much less turbo lag and good low down torque. The reported MPG has gone from around 26 to 32 mpg. I have tried it on medium power mode and the extra torque is even more noticeable. This week, I intend to fit a switch so I can select more power when towing my caravan on hills. I think that ECO mode will be used most of the time though whether towing or not.

Also keen to hear how anyone's doing with theirs... been umming and arring over the Synergy3 and the Bluespark. The Bluespark has a few supporters on this forum, but not much been said about the Synergy.

thehelper - sounds good so far! Would be interested to know the caluclated MPG rather than the dash reading next time you fill, the tuning boxes can throw the dash calc off from what i've read.

Yes, quite agree the extra pressure in the fuel rail can throw the mpg reading out. However, If i was primarily interested in fuel economy, I would probably not have bought a fl2. The smoother drive and better torque is my main reason for fitting it.

Thanks thehelper.

The website says full instructions for setting are included. Can I ask - are each of the settings from 0-9 explained more than what is shown on the box itself?

Cheers

Hi Jimmy
To be honest no the settings are not explained much beyond the label. The additional ECO 1 and ECO 2 modes are explained a bit on the switch pdf, which you can download from the website. If you want further advice on the settings, I would just Email Ron. In my experience he responds really quickly, and I have found him very helpful. I had a synergy 2 fitted to my old rover 75 and found it extremely good. On that I just played with the settings until I was happy with the balance of economy and power then just left it alone. It was fine for the 10 years I used it without any further tinkering.

Thanks for the info thehelper.

I did ping an email to Ron and he has came back with a fair bit of good info. He won't be specific with what each setting actually provides as in percentage of fuel and MAP increase but he did explain in more detail about the switches and Eco settings for the Synergy 3. (then I found the pdf you mentioned, doh!)

Basically Eco will be setting 1 of the box when used with the 2 position switch and then the power is whatever you set the rotary dial at.
He will set the Eco at whatever you request but setting 1 only has fuel boost and no increase in MAP. He was very helpful and says he can modify the Eco setting to allow for low boost increase instead of none. My theory is that turbo power is free and instead of allowing it to be vented off, why not use it as long as everything else is in sync with it.
Since I have no DPF this is less likely to be a problem because he told me the DPF differential air pressure sensor can cause an error and trigger restricted performance and limp mode - if there is any significant blockage of the DPF. The best exhaust for a turbo is - no exhaust Wink but I'm glad I have no DPF.

I'm away from home at the moment so no real point in ordering it yet as it would just be sitting in the garage waiting anyway, and it gives me some more time to ponder but I am very much interested in getting one.

Let me know how you get on with the switch - do you have a place in mind where you are going to fit it?

Cheers

Manufacturers all claim omissions are unchanged or better for these type boxes so shouldn't affect the MOT.

You need to notify your Insurance company of any vehicle changes so likely to be a premium change.
