G4 Roofrack

Posting here as not sure where else it should go!

Picking a 62 plate GS up next week and at it appears as it’s a MY13 - not old style dash but doesn’t have the analogue clock either. Not sure if this only last 1 year or not (is this a worry?)

Anyway into the post in question. Looking to get some form of roof rack as it will be needed for camping trips. I clearly am not going to be getting a G4 one as they are so rare and was thinking of getting the genuine rails fitted (have already purchased a set of cross bars). Having looked again at expedition style ones these don’t seem to mount to the roof rails but the actual mounts on the roof itself. Can anyone shed any light on this please? Are these mounts available separately from anywhere which means I could fabricate my own rack onto these mounting points?

There are photos in this thread

I am very happy with the whole setup on the roof. If you think you want to make anything like this sent another PM, I will have to measure it up & take some photos of key areas so you can clearly see how it is made.

There is a lot of work here, bending, drilling, tapping, hundreds of bolts. I also straightened the crossbars & drilled into them. There is stainless steel in the crossbar channel where the rubber was, which the bolts thread into.

The bracket for the solar cells also worked well. Having the tyre in the front stopped 17700 km of bugs hitting the front solar panel. they never needs cleaning other than a bit of general dust. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Back to the original question

Anyone managed to get one of these very rare G4 racks who can detail the fixing method?

Hi there, i recommend looking at the Front Runner roofrack, i have one fitted to my 57 plate and you do not need the front to rear rails as they fit using the same mounting points as the rails. Hope it helps Andy.

Will try and get some photos later for you. If you google Front Runner and aim to deal with the warehouse in Belgium you will get a better deal and a lot faster delivery than using any supplier in this country, great guys to deal with and do come over to do the shows in this country and if you time it right they will bring it with them and safe you the postage costs.

Help I’m lost - did you manage to take any shots of the fixing points and roof rack by any chance? Would love to see how they fit close up
