That’s how I did mine. I used a piece of hose and a tiny funnel and filled each inlet/outlet up until it came out of the others. I’ve heard others submerse the new filter housing in a can of diesel and wait until the air bubbles stop coming out. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

When you change the fuel filter on a Freelander 2 it needs priming as the system does not self prime, personally when I change mine I bleed the system with a vacuum pump connected to the return outlet of the fuel filter the one to the tank (looking at the filter from the top it is the rear on the left) this extracts all the air in the system, from the filter, fuel pump and injector lines. Once the system is purged of air the vehicle should start without any problem. |

I've done several filter changes on mine now over the years, and all I do is (a) empty the old filter into a large, clean jar - note: it holds a surprising amount of diesel and you need to shake it about a bit to make sure you've got every drop; (b) use a small syringe to inject the diesel into the inlet port of the new filter; (c) fit new filter and start engine.

Erm, so a diesel filter holding filtered filth is then tipped into a jar and used on a clean system. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I always keep a can of diesel in the workshop as I fill EVERY diesel fuel filter when I change them before even attempting to start the engine. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

For me, the diesel that comes out of the old filter and any sucked through to prime it, eventually gets mixed with some of the old engine oil and used as wood preservative. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto
