'Beep' Insurance companies! | |
So it's that time of year, all the household cars and the home insurance are up for renewal on the 24th August - I'm currently with Admiral Multi insurance and the quote came through:
ME (51 age) Freelander = £569.76
Wife (47) Colt = £156.51
Son (19) Ibiza = £1426.59
House + Contents = £187.05
So total comes to £2339.91
Last year I paid £350 for the D4, but as I've had a no fault claim I was expecting it to go up, but this much!
Anyway, went online, did the usual compares, and got everything down to around £2000 (Son £1400, me down to £280, wife and house small reductions)
I then called Admiral and said that their price was far too high, threatened I'd leave, so they did a few things, took me off my sons insurance (Apparently I'm more of a risk now ) and added a load of 'Special discounts)
Price is now:
ME (51) Freelander = £375.51
Wife (47) Colt = £126.56
Son (19) Ibiza = £928.92
House + Contents = £155.45
Total = £1586.50, that's £753 reduction
Incidentally, I can get the FL2 cheaper if I went solo on it, but, it would mean that I would reduce the discounts added to the the others, so net impact = higher overall price
Total search and talk time today was around 1.5 hrs, that's a pretty good hourly rate IMO (£500/hr ), so my advice to all is put in the effort and shop around with insurance
