what is difference between DPF and catalytic converter as I have just remembered that our B2500 had cat and I took it to the scrapyard and I think the difference in price between old and new cat was about £40

Very basically, a cat converter converts harmful gasses into less harmful gasses. A diesel particulate filter (DPF) filters out particles of soot then either burns them off or dumps them somewhere along the motorway!
