I did a partial blank or it would have thrown up errors. I have a spare CR Tech1 box if you are interested? It is in perfect condition with all instructions 😜 Cheers,

That's right - I think the hole is about 10mm and is presumably just enough to fool the ecu into thinking that the EGR is working ok. Cheers,

Hi Raz,

I ordered the 1 without a hole, looks like I will be drilling 10mm,. What's the difference between the CR Tech1 vs cr2 , FOREVER LEARNING

Razman, is it easy to plug and play or is there some technical know how required. Not much into car electrics. I’ve a 2014 SD4 and only managing 25mpg around town. On longer runs down the motorway I’ll manage 34 roughly.

Definitely one of the easier things to fit - whip the engine cover off, unplug the fuel rail connector and plug the CR Tech loom in between. Then just find a home for the little box (about the size of a pack of ciggies) I mounted mine in the battery bay which allows easy access if you want to change maps.
20 minute tops - Easy peasy Very Happy Cheers,
Raz

This has been pretty thoroughly discussed but here's my thoughts:
Fuel consumption with a cold engine is terrible. Do you have an "instant fuel" readout? (Can't remember if my SD4 had one). If so, this will give you an idea of when the mpg is at its worst.
If the egr is sticking open it will affect performance and mpg. If not, a blanking plug won't help much. Suggest you fit the blanking plug and see if it makes a difference. If not, take it off again. If the egr is a problem, I'd be inclined nowadays to replace it rather than blank it off, but if you do blank it I would remove the plate for the MoT just to be safe, IF it's visible. If it's under the engine cover you're OK as the MoT man is not allowed to dismantle the vehicle!
I think the egr on mine was beginning to jam before I traded it in, as top speed was down from an indicated 130 to about 115 (on the Autobahn of course!).
I don't think winter tyres on the back only is a good idea. The performance will be very different in the cold. You'd be better off with all summer or all winter. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
