Aircon fan noise

I tend to leave the aircon switched on all the time and it works well, even in our rare warm days. SWMBO told me that she can hear the fan noise above the engine whenever I arrive home and on closer inspection it certainly does appear to be very noisy - no grinding or anything worrying - just fan roar
Is this normal or should I look at replacing it? Cheers,
Raz

Fan or compressor?

I recently had my air con recharged and the guy was having problems with the settings on his new machine, which resulted in me only getting 500g of gas instead of 730g (the oil figure was correct, though). After that, the compressor was quite noisy and could be heard above the engine noise until I got it redone properly with the correct amount of gas. I am at a loss to explain why the gas pressure should affect the compressor noise...possibly insufficient pressure to carry the oil round the system. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

It is definitely fan roar as it continues for a few seconds after the engine is switched off. The fan bearings appear to be ok as far as I can tell. One thing I have noticed is that the fan is either on (at full speed) or off and I am wondering if some kind of speed control is possible to reduce the roar at low speeds. Cheers,

I think fan roar when you have the A/C on on all cars is quite noticeable outside the car. Not so noticeable inside the car as the windows should be closed! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
